Taiwanese entertainer, Yu Bing-hsian, popular for his cross-dressing performances, held a press conference to announce his withdrawal from showbiz after being caught for drug abuse a second time.
Yu appeared at for a drama shoot where he expressed that it will be his last drama. He plans to become a scriptwriter afterwards to earn a living.
Though he publicly promised to kick his addiction two years ago, Yu was arrested again for misusing amphetamine with his friend in a motel on April 17 this year. The judge allowed him bail for NT$30,000 (about S$1,500) but Yu sat in the police station for three hours in a daze without making a call, seemingly refusing to pay for the bail. The judge later put him under house arrest instead.
Since Yu repeated his offence within five years, he will face a maximum of three years fixed-termed imprisonment if his urine test for amphetamine proves positive.
Yu appeared in public on April 18 to apologise to his friends, relatives and the public. After terminating his contract with the company, he will withdraw from showbiz after completing the drama he has on hand.
Yu may turn to being a screenwriter for a living. In contrast to his peak when he had several variety programmes and dramas on hand with an estimated monthly income of NT$800,000 (about S$40,000), a screenwriter’s monthly income is merely NT$50,000 (about $2,500). Yu also has a family debt of NT$3million (about S$150,000) to clear.
